The Orpheum Theater celebrates more than 100 years of theatrical performances in downtown Omaha. In 1898, the Orpheum theater was showing daily performances from the vaudeville circuit. In 1927, the theater owners decided to build a larger theater to meet the demand for vaudeville. The Durham Museum is housed in a 1931 former Union Pacific Rail Station in Omaha, that quickly became one of the busiest train stations in the country. After the station was donated to the city in 1973, the modest museum opened in 1975. After extensive renovations in 1995, 2004 and 2007 the museum was expanded with additional galleries and square footage.
In 2002, the museum became an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. Visit this incredible museum to view the collection of historical Nebraska artifacts, photographs, documents and exhibits.
