According to Indian legend "Omaha," translates to "above all others upon a stream." That stream, the Missouri River, was an integral part of the formation of the city. The City of Omaha was originally laid out in 1854 by a ferry company operating between Iowa and the new Nebraska territory. The town experienced rapid growth as the nation's first transcontinental railroad broke ground there in 1863. Over the years Omaha has transformed from a rugged frontier town to the cosmopolitan city it is today. The city's residents demand a high quality of life with availability to the arts and cultural events, plenty of restaurants with a variety of cuisine, low crime rate, and good education. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the amenities that are made available by these standards. Whether partial to the arts, shopping, fine dining, historic exploration, outdoor recreation or sports, Omaha will surprise you with its diversity. Best Western Omaha Nebraska.
